PIFA: La Relâche – Les Films Muets

Sunday, April 17, 2011 at Mandell Theater, Drexel University (3141 Chestnut St Philadelphia, PA)

This program is a screening with live music of several classic French silent films. The Mystery of the Rocks of Kador(1912, dir. Léonce Perret) is the feature, with a new score by French composer Régis Huby. This cerebral, Hitchcockian murder mystery is notable for its complex plot and camera-work that is ahead of its time. Also, several Max Linder short comedies will be screened with new scores by Chuck Holdeman, Greg Bowers and Chris McGlumphy. Live music accompaniment for all films will be performed by the 8 member Relâche ensemble.

·Régis Huby – The Mystery of the Rocks at Kador (world premiere Relâche commission)

·Chuck Holdeman – Max Takes A Picture (world premiere Relâche commission)

·Greg Bowers – Love’s Surprises (world premiere Relâche commission)

·Chris McGlumphy – Be My Wife (excerpt) (world premiere Relâche commission)
